Labor Day might almost be here, but that doesn’t mean the outdoor music season is coming to a close! We are very excited to be participating in this year’s Pabst Blue Rendezvous, Saturday, September 12, 2009 in the Short North!  Here’s all the info from PBR:

On Saturday, Sept. 12th we will be having a big fun party in the Fireproof Parking Lot (2nd Ave. & High St.) from 2-8PM! We’re calling it the Pabst Blue Rendezvous – and we hope you’ll meet us there for what is sure to be an amazing afternoon - celebrating music, art & community spirit.

We’ll have two stages rotating 12 bands; Eight local artists will be creating live art (inspired by PBR); independent vendors; games, raffles & surprises; food by Rad Dog and zPizza; and of course, ice-cold, delicious P B R ! ! !

It’s FREE to attend and all proceeds from beer sales will benefit the Columbus Music Co-Op and the Couchfire Collective – two local organizations that consistently do wonderful things for the art & music communities of Columbus.

Please consider alternative forms of transportation when making your way down to the Short North – Bike it or bus it! We’ll have a complimentary bike corral set-up and managed by Paradise Garage.

Besides the much-appreciated folks that have already been mentioned, a whole lot of thank you’s must go out to the following friends of PBR who also did their part in helping to make this event a reality: Bodega, Surly Girl Saloon, Central City Recording, Columbus Percussion, The Guitar Shoppe, Pi A/V, Wholly Craft, CD101-FM and The Other Paper. Well, we’re almost done planning this year’s Here Comes Your Weekend Parking Lot Blowout, so we wanted to take a quick minute to remind you about the great program you’re helping fund by attending tomorrow’s event!

Proceeds from the bar and food tent benefit the Columbus Musicians’ Assistance Program (CMAP).  CMAP is the signature project of the CMC and we donated $7,500 to Columbus musicians in our pilot year.

CMAP awards grants to Central Ohio musicians who are lacking health insurance coverage and who are experiencing health-related financial hardships.

Musicians can submit requests for assistance with:

  • Medical bills/treatments/office visits
  • Vision or dental services
  • Prescription medications
  • Drug and alcohol addiction treatment

For more information about CMAP or any CMC project or programming, please contact us at columbusmusiccoop@gmail.com or 614.266.5157.

Now! Get your behind down to the Surly Girl Saloon, tomorrow, July 11, 2009 from 2 p.m.-midnight.  It’s free, all-ages and we have 11 bands and cocktails and hot dogs all for a good cause!

SEE YOU TOMORROW!

PLBO Band Spotlight #10!

The Parking Lot Blowout is TOMORROW!

Our 10th band spotlight is:

MOVIOLA

Moviola doesn’t play very often in Columbus and we are honored to have them play our stage at 8:15 on Saturday.  They’ll also be playing a special set with 8-band members for one night only!

SF Weekly had this to say about Moviola:

““…It’s the ability to be quirky, individualist and knowing, include ironic asides, and at the same time communicate real feeling, or to empathize so strongly with another, that you’re actually there with them. That’s the quality that Moviola have. They avoid the alt-country and even Americana ghetto altogether, their range is too wide.”

Team CMC has all the volunteer goodie bags ready, the mugs are packed up and almost all the details are finalized for our 4th Parking Lot Blowout.

One more band spotlight tonight before we get our beauty sleep!

CHEATER SLICKS!

The Cheater Slicks formed in Boston in the late 80’s and relocated to Columbus in the mid-90’s and we sure are glad they did. The Slicks have been turning out garage-punk tunes for years and we’re super excited they’ll be joining us for Here Comes Your Weekend.  They hit the stage Saturday at 9:45 p.m.

You can hear their music here:
