We are going to spotlight the bands playing this year’s Here Comes Your Weekend Parking Lot Blowout on our website this week and next!

Kicking off the event this year is

APOCALYPSO!

plbo1.jpg

From their Myspace page:

“The band was born out of a friend’s wedding in 2001. The three of us were all fans of the Caribbean beat and in combination with our irrepressible urges to play Black Sabbath, we formed this band. We also shared the condition of having reoccurring morbid thoughts of the apocalypse. We hope you don’t take this the wrong way, and we also hope you’ll decide to get off your ass and come dance the Soca with us.”

If you’d like to volunteer, please email columbusmusiccoop@gmail.com!

Press Release:

It takes a bevy of hands to turn 1000 pounds of salmon into Salmon Sandwiches at The Hills Market’s Annual Salmon Roast. This year, on the fifteenth birthday of Hills Market’s Salmon Roast, the store is enlisting the help of Columbus’ music community, in return for financial support of the Columbus Music Co-op, an organization that (among other things) provides grants to Franklin County musicians experiencing health-related financial hardship. This year’s attendees will be able to see some of their favorite Columbus musicians making sandwiches, scooping coleslaw and moving a LOT of salmon during this Memorial Day weekend tradition.

The Salmon Roast is Saturday, May 23 from 11.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. in the parking lot of The Hills Market, located at 7860 Olentangy River Road in Columbus (at the bottom of the Worthington Hills and the top of the Olentangy Bike Path). The event is open to the public and has an ala carte menu including the Roast’s namesake, the Salmon Roast Sandwich. Live music will be provided by Winchester Steel Co., a steel drum ensemble from Canal Winchester High School .

The Hills Market Salmon Roast draws an average of 800 - 900 people each year on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. Its central feature is the Salmon Sandwich, comprised of salmon grilled in the parking lot paired with Hills Own Onion Slather and a side of Hills Own Coleslaw for $7.50.
